Awakening is about Empowering Relationships that have a balance between giving AND receiving. We receive what we give. So it’s super-important that you give from the right place to build your authentic business . When you give from the right place, what you want flows naturally. When you give from the wrong place, what you want cannot find you.
Moreover, the right place for you is different than the right place for me. While there are always universal truths at play, we are all designed to be different. Or what I call “Uniquely Brilliant.”
Awakening and Social Distancing (and the Impact on Empowering Your Relationships)
I’ve been social distancing all my life. Not because I didn’t want to be friendly and belong to a group. But rather because I simply felt like an ugly duckling. Unsure of myself and unsure of how to truly connect with others. So Oprah’s talk in the video below about the impact of her people-pleasing really struck a chord with me.
After I watched the Oprah video, I thought “OMG–that was so me!”
As I look back at my struggles to build my authentic business, my relationship challenges kept sabotaging my success. My challenges in attracting my tribe brought up all kinds of deeply buried limiting beliefs…
“People don’t hear me.”
“I’m not important.”
“No one gets me.”
Until I dug deep enough to uncover the real reasons for my “disconnect”…
What EVERYONE Wants
Oprah said it clearly… everyone just wants to be heard. So as long as I was feeling unheard, I couldn’t hear others. I couldn’t be there for others and what they REALLY needed.
So I was giving from the wrong place. I was giving from the place of “I need to be seen, heard, and understood” in my subconscious. Whereas, the right place for empowering relationships would be to hear other people. But not just hear their words, the right place for me is to “awaken” them to their highest purpose.
To awaken Souls, I had to see beyond the illusion of what they ***think*** is the problem and get to the root of what my Ideal Clients need. So I had to wake-up before I could easily build my authentic business… and you have to wake-up before you can build your authentic business too…

Build Empowering Relationships with the Relationship Axis
What I discovered from my struggles was that our relationship with others hinges upon our relationship with ourselves. That’s why what you give and receive is unique to you. Below is the roadmap to see, hear, and understand yourself found in your Human Design Birth Chart.
Specifically, the Relationship Axis made-up of your gates in Mars and Venus. Mars is masculine, outward energy that can feel pushy to others until you learn to channel your passion to serve the right people at the right time. Venus is feminine, inward energy that can feel overwhelming until you learn to set boundaries and focus on what you really want. Or more simply, Mars is giving and Venus is receiving.
- The Turnaround — From needing (outside-in) to empowered relationships (inside-out) asking “How can I serve my tribe?”
- Aries/Mars Question – “How do others perceive my actions upon them?”
- Libra/Venus Question – “How do I perceive others actions upon me?”
An out-of-balance condition in the Relationship Axis manifests as the unconscious need to be liked and the fear of criticism. Learn more about the other Axises of Self-Mastery and the other unconscious needs on my Courses and Coaching page.
Below are two client’s gates in these archetypes. This will help us look at how the Relationship Axis works to help you have empowering relationships to build your authentic business.
Using the Relationship Axis to Build Your Authentic Business – Example #1
Becky is a Generator and her gates in the Relationship Axis are:
- Conscious Mars – 64.4 “The Gate of Diverse Possibilities”
- Unconscious Mars – 4.2 “The Gate of Mental Solutions”
- Conscious Venus – 63.2 “The Gate of Doubts”
- Unconscious Venus – 14.1 “The Gate of Prosperity”
The Relationship Axis – Becky’s Mars Gates
Becky is very passionate with her ideas (Gate 64) and her mental solutions (Gate 4). Others perceive her through her ideas and her solutions.
When she follows her Generator strategy and waits to respond, the right people will find her and ask her for her ideas and her solutions to their problem. However, when she doesn’t follow her strategy and re-acts from a place of unconscious need to be liked/fear of criticism, she tries to give her ideas and solutions to anyone who is around her… who often end up criticizing her no matter what she does. This makes Becky appear to be “pushy”. Or, she ends up feeling stuck and stops expressing her ideas and solutions altogether. The Relationship Axis – Becky’s Venus Gates
Becky’s doubts (Gate 63) come to her thick and fast. She is always looking to improve everyone and everything. The difference between her Gate 64 in Mars and her Gate 63 in Venus is that people perceive her as a person who has many possibilities, while she perceives others actions upon her through her doubts. She simply sees herself differently than others see her. This is true of us all!
So there is a natural conflict here that Becky can only balance by doing her Inner Child healing work. The more conscious she becomes, the more present she can be to give and receive. Therefore, the goal is to balance how others perceives her actions upon them via possibilities and mental solutions (Mars gates) with how she perceives others actions upon her via doubt and her gate 14 (Venus gates).
Finally, Becky’s prosperity (Gate 14) is about how she perceives others actions upon her in terms of satisfaction, wealth and affluence. Her gate of diverse possibilities (Gate 64) jumps in when she acts too fast and then she ends up throwing money (Gate 14) at her problems to “fix” what’s not working. Of course, her ability to amass wealth in her life hinges upon following her Generator strategy of “waiting to receive” those who want the possibilities that she offers.
As Becky goes deeper with her healing and transformation, more will be revealed…
Using the Relationship Axis to Build Your Authentic Business – Example #2
Next, we have Joan Scott who is a Projector and her gates in the Relationship Axis are:
- Conscious Mars – 48.1 “The Gate of Depth”
- Unconscious Mars – 4.6 “The Gate of Mental Solutions”
- Conscious Venus – 15.3 “The Gate of Humanity/Extremes”
- Unconscious Venus – 12.5 “The Gate of Standstill”
The Relationship Axis – Joan’s Mars Gates
Joan is passionate about building deep foundations in her business (Gate 48) and bringing her mental solutions (Gate 4) to her tribe. Others perceive her through her depth and her mental solutions. When she follows her Projector strategy of “waiting for the invitation,” then she easily connects with those ready to receive her depth of wisdom and innovative solutions. When she tries to give to everyone indiscriminately, then she is re-acting from an unconscious need… the need to be liked and finding people who criticize her for being “too deep” and who reject the solutions that she tries to offer. And, like Becky, Joan may also end up being pushy or feeling that she simply can’t be herself and will stop giving altogether.
The Relationship Axis – Joan’s Venus Gates
Joan perceives other people’s actions upon her through her humanitarian viewpoint of the extremes that life offers (Gate 15) and through being at a standstill (Gate 12). So while Joan is projecting her passion for deep innovative solutions through her Mars energy, Joan perceives others actions upon her from a standstill/or silence and as a vast perspective on the extremes of life. This beautifully supports her Projector aura that is focused on the needs of other people. But, the challenge for Joan is to make sure that her own needs are also fulfilled as she witnesses the actions of others through standstill and the extremes that life offers. She will do this by setting aside ample alone time to see, hear, and understand herself. This is especially important for a Projector who doesn’t have the life-force energy to always be there for others.
