Awakening is scary… especially for us Coaches who are building our businesses at the same time! It’s especially painful as you put yourself out there to market and network your business and you experience crickets. This draws up all kinds of pain as you feel unseen, unheard, and misunderstood, including “I’m not good enough.” “I’m not worthy.” “I’m not important.”
Because awakening is about learning a whole new way of being, your experiences will always bring up a certain level of fear that must be transmuted into love.
But now, you don’t have to be lost any longer either. There is a way through whatever darkness you (and your clients) are experiencing. You can AWAKEN to the truth that has been buried within you all along!
The awakening process begins with a deep desire to understand yourself. So you withdrawal from the world, go within and begin to see yourself differently. I call this part of the process “Discover Your Unique Brilliance.”

Your Authority – How you make the right decisions every time. There are 6 Authorities:
Emotional – With emotional authority, it is important that you “Be Emotionally Clear” before you make decisions. With a defined Emotions Center, you have a defined emotional wave that you ride from high to low and in between. While there are patterns to waves (see the 3 emotional waves below), your particular emotional wave will depend upon your own inner process… some people have short waves lasting a day, while others can last a few days to a week, etc.
The point is to excerise patience and wait until you feel emotionally clear BEFORE you act. Emotions rule and often override all the other energies in your design! The 3 emotional waves are:
- Collective – Crash wave; climbing up, then moving along a plateau, to be followed by a crash down. This wave when it’s in the hope part of the cycle is kind of saying “ohhhhh great!” But in the pain cycle it’s saying “Oh is that all?”
- Individual – Wave goes along almost flat; people don’t even know that you are emotional. Then you either go straight up like a rocket or straight down. When you are up things are just fabulous, but when you are down you really feel like you will never, ever be up again. The pain and despair can be all encompassing and you see no light at the end of the tunnel.
- Tribal – The tribal wave is very reliable in its cyclical nature of moving up and down like a roller coaster.There’s often the sense that one is, indeed needed and wanted, but it’s followed by the feeling that one is rejected and doesn’t belong.
Example: You are triggered emotionally by a Client who doesn’t show-up ready for the “real” work in your sessions together. You notice that you start dreading your scheduled coaching sessions. One day she asks for a refund and says she’s not getting what you promised her… and you feel at a loss for how to bring her back to the “real problem”. In exasperation, you agree to the refund. You feel emotions well-up inside of you and don’t know what you could have done differently.
Depending upon your specific wave (above), the emotion runs its course. If you fully feel what came up for healing, you will arrive at emotional clarity and understand what to do differently down the road with the next client. If not, your fear of working with a similar client will manifest until you do get clear. The length of time depends upon your awareness and commitment to a new way of truly feeling your emotions and choosing from a place of emotional clarity.
Note: Emotional Authority is the most complex center in Human Design. In this example, I’m assuming you have to answer your client within a few hours or within a day… which is before you gain the emotional clarity from your Emotional wave. As you work with your Emotional wave, you will gain greater emotional control and become more and more objective in your decision-making. As you do, you’ll become more aware of how to move your Client beyond their resistance in the moment… if that is what you want to do.
Sacral Authority – The Center for Life Force Energy… the most powerful motor in the design. When you have this as your decision-making authority, you are a pure Generator. This includes:
- “Follow Your Gut.”
- Arising from your belly, your gut response to questions asked is either “Uh-Huh/Yes” or “Un-Huh/No.”
- Emotions Center is White (Undefined or Open/no gates defined).
A pure Generator is very systematic… taking one step at a time to do what they do. A Generator with Sacral Authority should have a neutral party ask them a question about the decision they are trying to make.
For example, you could ask a Generator with Sacral Authority “Would you like to schedule a complimentary strategy session with me?”
Then they can simply answer,“Uh-Huh/Yes” or “Un-Huh/No.”
A bigger question might me “Would you like to buy my new 8-week course?”
Or, “Would you like to attend my Women’s retreat?”
Or, even bigger, “Do you want to buy a private VIP Day with me?”
It really doesn’t matter what the question is… just that the question is focused so the Sacral can answer with a clear response.
Example: In our example of a Client who isn’t doing the “real” work of change and wants a refund, recognizing your Sacral authority could really help you gain clarity straight away. The problem is usually that we forget to go to the Sacral and make decisions with our minds instead. Fear is usually the culprit here. Awareness is the antidote… but awareness usually takes time and commitment (much like the Emotional wave does).
The best you can do is work with your Sacral as soon as you become aware of it. When stress or fear derails your Sacral authority and you think your way to your solution, just come back to your work as soon as you remember.
The key is to have a neutral 3rd party ask you a clear yes/no questions around the matter at hand.
Such as, “Do I want to give this person a refund?”
If yes, give the refund.
If no, ask “Do I want this person as a client?”
If yes, “Do I want to confront the real reason they are not doing the “real work”?
Keep breaking down the next step into a simple “Yes”/ “No” question. It takes practice but is well worth the clarity it brings!
Note: For Sacral authority, the Emotions Center is White/Undefined or Open, which means that you take in and amplify other people’s emotional energy when in their presence. Your challenge in following your Sacral response is to “stay grounded” and not get caught up in the emotional waves of other people.
Splenic – When the Spleen (Center for Survival and Senses) is defined/colored-in, you make “Instant Decisions” in the moment. This response comes only once from the Spleen Center. Therefore, your ability to be present and grounded in your body is how you make the best decisions each and every time. The Spleen just knows… and you must learn to trust your inner knowing.
Example: For Splenic authority, both the Emotions and Sacral Centers are White/Undefined or Open, which means that you take in and amplify other people’s emotional and sacral energy when in their presence. Your challenge in following your “instant” splenic response is to “stay grounded” and not get caught up in the emotional waves and active sacral energy of other people.
So if your request for a refund is an emotionally-driven request, you are likely to be all caught up in another’s emotional wave! It just depends on the client… and again, how aware you are of your own inner truth and whether you are clear on what you really want!
Heart – The Heart is the Center for Willpower and Wishes. You have Heart Authority:
- When the Heart Center is connected to the Throat (which makes both the Heart and Throat Centers defined/colored-in), and
- the Emotions, Sacral, and Spleen are undefined/open/white.
Self – The Self/G Center is the Center for Direction, Purpose, and Love. You have Self/G Center Authority:
- When your Self/G Center is defined/colored-in and connected to your Throat or Heart Center.
- the Emotions, Sacral and Spleen are Undefined
The Self/G Center is where the “metaphysical heart” resides and where you can sit in the still-point of your Soul. Your authority is “Be True to Yourself.” So you (more than anyone else) have the ability to be self-directed and lead from your Soul.
Example: When dealing with an unhappy Client, your challenge is your undefined/open/white Emotions, Sacral, and Spleen energy centers. As with the Sacral and Splenic authorities, you take-in and amplify the emotional, sacral, and splenic energies of those around you. Over time, this means that you have gotten caught-up in other people’s wants and needs and lost your own way.
Most likely, when a Client is unhappy and request a refund, you take this personally and get lost in their needs and wants and forget your own.
This is the most common response from most of Humanity… to put others first and forget self. Yet, the truth is somewhere in between… especially when you have “Self-Directed Authority”!
Some questions for you:
“Is the Client before you Ideal for you and your coaching business?”
“Does the Client align with your specific Ideal Client Transformation?” (Most likely the person wasn’t ideal for you in the first place… and this is why they weren’t responding to your methods! But you couldn’t see this until now…)
As you gain awareness of your Human Design and how to express your unique brilliance, you will become true to your own nature and needs and serve others from a place of authenticity. And, you will attract your Ideal Clients, who are ready for the exact transformation that you provide!
Outer – Outer Authority is a Projector with only the Crown/Mind/Throat defined or a completely white/undefined/open design known as the Reflector Type.
Your Authority is to “Access Intelligence” by waiting 28 days according to the Lunar Calendar, like all pure Reflectors do.
The challenge of the Projector with Outer Authority with so many undefined/open/white centers is to take in and amplify other’s energy and wait to respond according the intelligence that you access after waiting the 28 days.
The Projector aura of focusing and absorbing into the energies of other beings is very different from the Reflector’s aura that is resistant and sampling.
The Reflector’s aura acts like teflon and naturally makes them less impacted by the energies of other people.
Either way, an essential part of both the Projector’s and Reflector’s decision-making process needs to be ample alone and down-time to process the energies that they’ve been immersed in.
Example: Whether you are a Projector or a Reflector, the length of time to gain clarity (28 days) means that you will likely experience an unhappy Client and refunds before you can have the necessary awareness to enhance your decision-making in difficult situations. And, that’s OK!
Giving yourself the time and space to both experience and process your thoughts, emotions and all the other aspects of your Human Design is the key to your long-term happiness.
The truth is that we all must use patience to allow the process to unfold in divine timing… one step at a time!
What I’ve found in my own journey is that there is always a light at the end of the tunnel! No matter how difficult it is at the time, the experiences we have are leading to lessons we must have in order to awaken into the Conscious Coach we are here to be!
